Live & remote

On this page

Studio mic #

The browser ARM MIC (ยง2) is the everyday in-studio path, no external software, automatic ducking.

Remote DJ broadcasting #

A presenter can broadcast from home with BUTT or Mixxx over Harbor:

  1. An admin enables remote broadcast for the user in Admin โ†’ Users: this generates a personal harbor login + password (shown on the broadcast page / user record).
  2. The DJ points their encoder at the station's live. host, port 8005, mount /live and signs in with those credentials.
  3. If the show allows remote and that DJ is a permitted presenter, they fade on air automatically when their show's hour starts, and the station fades back to automation when they leave or the show ends.

Connected DJs appear in the studio title bar with their state (waiting / on air) and a countdown. Manage all of this in Admin โ†’ Station โ†’ Broadcast.

Remote guests (CleanFeed-style) #

Invite a guest to call into the show from their browser, no account, no software.

As the host (Admin โ†’ Station โ†’ Broadcast โ†’ Remote guests, or the Guest mixer pop-out from the studio):

  1. Type the guest's name and Create link: it's copied to your clipboard (valid 6 hours). Send it to the guest.
  2. When they join, a green badge appears in the studio header and the guest shows in the mixer.
  3. Use the mixer to ride them: Mute / Live, Fade in / Fade out, a level fader, and live VU meters for the guest and your own mic. They start muted, bring them up when you're ready.

What the guest sees at their link (guest.your-station.org/guest/<token>): a clean green-room page with their own mic VU meter, a microphone picker, a status pill (Muted โ†’ Going live in Ns โ†’ On air), a Recording indicator, a studio-volume slider for their headphone return, and light/dark themes. They hear the show minus their own voice (mix-minus) so there's no echo.

The guest link runs on a separate, Cloudflare-proxied guest. subdomain (it can't share the grey-clouded live. host that carries the raw encoder port). See CLOUDFLARE-DNS.md.

Recording #

From the Guest mixer, hit Record to capture the segment as three separate files: the guest, your mic, and the program (everything on air), each to its own track. When you stop, they appear in the Recordings section on Admin โ†’ Station โ†’ Broadcast, where you can download each one or Add to library (it's transcoded in like any upload) to replay or edit later. Recordings stay out of the main library until you promote them.
